About

Who We Are

We’re a small team of women seeking big gains for women in politics.  Having been energized in 2008 by the possibilities of women holding the highest offices, we’re now turning our attention to supporting another talented woman, Martha Coakley.  We are not affiliated with Coakley’s campaign.  You can visit her official website here.  We receive no financial support from anyone.

What We’ll Do

  • Keep readers abreast of news, opinions, and buzz about Coakley’s campaign.
  • Call out any sexist treatment of Coakley.
  • Provide commenting space for readers to exchange ideas.
  • Notify those on our mailing list of actions they can take, such as  protesting media sexism.  Sign up here.

Why it Matters

Women are 51% of the population, but only 17% of the senate. The full potential of “the other half” of the population’s unique perspective, talents and leadership has yet to be unleashed. Women working together can make it happen one election at a time.

Massachusetts, despite its leadership in other equality issues, has never elected a woman senator. This could be an historic election!

Why it Matters to Non-MA Residents

Having another woman in the Senate will benefit women from all states.

The political playing field is not level for female candidates. We believe grassroots support from around the country can make a difference in this election.

Undecided about Coakley?

Welcome. Hang around and learn more. No matter what you decide, if you want the political playing field to be level for female candidates, you have a role here.

Blog Team

  • 18th Crack is a bank executive in Boston.
  • Backwards in Heels is a health care policy analyst in Boston.
  • BostonBabe is a Martha’s Vineyard resident who does research for us and occasionally writes, too. She loves the sign-waving and door-knocking aspects of campaigning.
  • Nancy Hopkins is a Biology Professor at MIT. But the real reason we like her is that she’s #36 on conservative author Goldberg’s list of People Who are Screwing Up America. She advises us, and when she writes for sites like Huffington Post and The New Agenda, she allows us to cross-post her work.
  • Madam President lives in California. She’s one of the many people nation-wide who think Martha would make a terrific senator. Madam President both blogs and twitters for us.
  • Mass4Martha is Judy Silver, who lives in the metro west suburbs. Now that her nest is empty, she blogs and makes videos. Coakley is the first candidate for whom she’s campaigned.
  • Mum4Martha is Robin Anderson, an attorney who now is at home raising her young son. Having worked for Coakley in the DA’s office, Robin knows first-hand what a capable and caring woman Coakley is.
  • WomenElect is Halane Hughes, an American from the South now living abroad and raising two girls who are the motivation behind her work toward proportional representation in government and other women’s causes. In addition to occasionally blogging, Halane maintains our website, twitter, and Facebook page.
