Whirlwind Tour Kicks Off at Fox

Coakley kicked off a blitz of 25 rallies and visits over the next five days with an interview at Fox 25:

Coakley Challenges Capuano on
Financial Regulation Record

During tonight’s debate, Coakley challenged Capuano on his record of inaction while on House Financial Services Committee as the housing bubble inflated and burst.  She said that Capuano is running on his “experience” but that

From my point of view, I saw too many areas where there wasn’t any experience used to go after predatory lending, for instance, to hold banks accountable.

Coakley, by contrast, has a strong track record of going after predatory lenders as AG, which Capuano acknowledged later in the debate, saying, [Read more →]

Squabblers and Fools?

In post-debate analysis on NECN tonight, panelist Emily Rooney said that Martha Coakley

has reduced the other three to squabbling with each other.

72% of Democratic AG’s Endorse Coakley

The campaign just announced that 23 state Attorneys General are endorsing her.  By my calculations, that’s 72% of the Democrats.  (I’m assuming that the endorsers all are Dems.)  This follows yesterday’s announcement that Coakley is endorsed by the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police. [Read more →]

Did He Really Just Call Her a Babe?

beam

One would think that after last night’s debate there would be plenty of fodder for today’s newspapers. Issues like Afghanistan, Health Care, Human Rights, and the Economy are the first that come to mind. With topics as important as these to be discussed and debated it would make sense for Boston’s leading newspaper to address each candidate’s position wouldn’t it? Well, it’s too bad that they were more preoccupied with Coakley’ shoes to find anything more substantive to write about.

I find this article by Alex Beam of the Boston Globe to be absolutely infuriating both as a woman and as a professional. Beam goes into alarming detail about Coakley’s chin positioning, the brown of her suit, and the youthfulness of her Mary Janes. It seems as though he is suggesting that if she wins she will be winning because, as he said, she is a “babe” and solely for that reason. Never mind the fact that she is an accomplished strong woman and public servant who will win the nomination because she is the most deserving. It seems that some men will never be able to see past a pretty face, and that truly is what saddens me the most about this deplorable article.

On December 8th let’s stand up to these men. It’s time to put substance over hemlines and show men like Beam that a woman truly is the best person to do a man’s job.

The Abortion Moment

If you’re looking for video of the women’s rights dust-up, view this clip, starting at 6:00.  If you didn’t see the debate, this is the most revealing and talked-about moment.  Coakley’s leadership on this issue has been clear for weeks, leaving the rest of the pack floundering.

Winning the Race in High Heels

Quotes I love from coverage of Tuesday’s debate:

From Rick Holmes of GateHouse News, one of the panelists:

Coakley has proven to be sure footed.  Even in high heels, she’s still leading this footrace.

Joan Vennochi of the Globe:

Indeed, when you have two guys fighting over abortion, it’s a decent night for Martha Coakley. [Read more →]

What She Would Have Said

Quick reactions to the WCVB debate:

Learned something new: the Attorney General’s office returns to Massachusetts $5 for every dollar it spends. That’s the kind of financial management we need in Washington!

Loved the moment when the moderator asked a tough question about end-of-life care and all of the previously snide and bickering guys went dead silent. Only Coakley was bold enough to step up and address the question. [Read more →]

Thirteenth Head-to-Head is On!

Coakley’s campaign has just added another candidates’ forum to the schedule, this one at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 am.  That makes thirteen debates and forums in which she’s participated along with the three other Democrats, making any charges that she’s ducking them seem a little desparate.

Don’t miss tonight’s debate, to be televised at 7:00 pm on Channel 5, WCVB, with live blogging on TheBostonChannel.com and KennedySeat.com.

List of Debates & Forums featuring all four Democratic candidates: [Read more →]
